How to Make Bamboo Shades

Bamboo shades are beautiful addition to any rooms. It does not matter if your room has a western style décor or an oriental one, a bamboo shade goes with everything. A bamboo shade at the window can simply transform the room in an instant. They will keep your room cool, but bright because of the slits they have on them.

Bamboo shades will even reduce noise and dust pollutions to some extent. Bamboo shades are lightweight and can be cleaned just by mopping with a piece of cloth. If you are ready to have bamboo shades for your room, you can try building one as it is really not very difficult. I have discussed below how you can make your very own bamboo shades.

Requirements

You will need bamboo or just pre-processed bamboo slats, sulfur powder, adhesive, pneumatic press, clear wood base coat and face coat, a punch, and pull cords. First measure your window and buy as many bamboos or bamboo slats as your will need.

Making slats

If you have purchased bamboos, you have to cut them vertically into thin strips called slats. The slats will then have to be peeled. Now prepare a solution using the sulfur powder and immerse the slats for 10 to 12 hours into it to disinfect them. Now you have to sundry the slats. The slats have to be totally dried out before they can be used. The amount of drying needed depends on the quality of the bamboos. The green bamboos need a lot of drying as they contain plenty of moisture.

Making the blind

Once the slats are thoroughly dried, they need to be coated with the adhesive. Now put the coated bamboo strips together along with the pneumatic press in order to make a bamboo plate. After this the plate has to be sliced to form thick multiple bamboo slats. Cover the slats with a base coating and then with a clear face coat.

Pull cord

Punch holes on these slats and insert the pull cords through them to add final touches to your bamboo shades.
